Eric Carle Illustration

Eric Carle Illustration

Description:
This piece was inspired by storybook author and illustrator Eric Carle. Paper was made by mixing paint with a wallpaper paste. The paper was painted with water first and then the paint mixture was then applied to the paper. Tools, such as the end of paintbrushes and sponges, were used to created different textures with the paint. After the papers had been dried they were cut up to create the objects needed in the picture that was being creating. I created an underwater scene in my project. The main focus of my story is a mother dolphin is introducing her young dolphin calf to the world of the sea.

Extension Activity:
An extension activity for Eric Carle illustrations would be to have the students a self portrait of themselves using the paper made. In this activity the students would have to make sure they make the colors of paper they will need in order to make their self portrait, such as a peach/cream or brown color for their skin and black or brown for their hair. After the self portrait students would write a 3 or 4 sentences about themselves that can be seen by their picture.
